Chickamauga and Chattanooga National Military Park will present a 45-minute ranger-led program about “biting the bullet” at the Snodgrass Cabin (Tour Stop 8).

From Saturday, September 14 to Sunday, September 15, and from Wednesday, September 18, to Friday, September 20, visitors are invited to join Chickamauga and Chattanooga National Military Park staff and volunteers as we commemorate the 161st Anniversary of the Battle of Chickamauga through a series of tours, hikes, and living history demonstrations.
On Saturday, September 7, at 11 am, Chickamauga and Chattanooga National Military Park will host a 90-minute, ranger-led, walking tour along the Old Wauhatchie Pike, on Lookout Mountain, to discuss the 92nd Illinois Mounted Infantry’s race to capture Chattanooga.
Our signature fundraising event (and our favorite night of the year) features live music from the New Dismembered Tennesseans; southern comfort food dinner buffet, including plant-based options; and the relaxed ambience and gorgeous scenery found at Point Park. The Cam Run 5K is a fast, out-and-back 5K that starts at the scenic Moccasin Bend Archaeological Preserve and goes down Moccasin Bend Road.
During the Battle of Chickamauga, several soldiers met the criteria needed to earn the Medal of Honor, yet they never received the medal.

On Saturday, August 10, 2024, at 10:30 am, 11:30 am, 1:30 pm, 2:30 pm, and 3:30 pm, Chickamauga and Chattanooga National Military Park will conduct artillery firing demonstrations, each lasting approximately 30 minutes, inside Point Park, on Lookout Mountain.
Chickamauga and Chattanooga National Military Park, in partnership with Outdoor Chattanooga and sponsored by National Park Partners, will conduct a FREE, 4- hour, historical kayak tour through Ringgold, Georgia.
On Saturday, July 13, at 11 am, Chickamauga and Chattanooga National Military Park will provide a 45-minute presentation discussing the story of 38th Alabama Infantry Captain Ben Lane Posey during the Battle of Chickamauga.

The role artillery played during the siege of Chattanooga was a critical factor in the struggle for control of the town. This program will look at how Lookout Mountain played an important role in what artillery was able to do in that struggle.
Chickamauga and Chattanooga National Military Park will present a special 1- hour program inside the Lookout Mountain Battlefield Visitor Center on Saturday, June 29, at 11 am, focusing on James Walker’s famous painting, “The Battle of Lookout Mountain.”

Jim Stinchcomb was from Lancaster, Ohio, where he was an attorney and a fierce war democrat. He seemed to be fighting two wars in 1863, one on the battlefield and the other in the court of public opinion as he lashed out, from afar, at his own party as the 1863 mid-term elections approached. Through it all, he kept up a steady correspondence back to Ohio and gave some graphic descriptions of what the men in the field were going through daily.
As battles began to rage in Tennessee in late 1862 and early 1863, Chattanooga’s location as a rail junction, away from the front, proved vital in housing for treating the wounded. Chattanooga soon became a hotbed for hospitals. Some of which were former hotels and warehouses to others that were mere homes of residents. Come join a park ranger for this special look at some of the sites associated with treating the soldiers, both North and South, in their dire and some cases final moments.
Chickamauga and Chattanooga National Military Park will conduct a FREE, 4-hour, ranger-led kayak tour on Saturday, June 15, at 9 am. National Park Partners will sponsor this event, with the help of Outdoor Chattanooga, where participants will paddle the waters of West Chickamauga Creek from Dalton’s Ford to Reed’s Bridge to learn about the Confederate creek crossings during the Battle of Chickamauga.
